We bought our Skipper about a year ago, just in time for the Skipper Tent Trailers Christmas Weekend. We enjoyed it thoroughly – met some interesting people and learned a lot. So, nothing could keep us away from this year’s event.

There were around 30 Skipper families with their vans at Mac Nicol’s Resort, Bazley Beach, for the annual Christmas Fish & Chips Dinner.

It’s an annual thing …

We only managed to leave home after lunch and arrived at Bazely mid-afternoon. So good to see our old “new friends” from previous Skipper rallies all together again.

Mac Nicol’s offers their trademark tray of tea and erection of your tent by their team, on arrival. Even though we had only brought the basics, it was good to have a bit of help putting everything up while I unpacked and made the bed, followed by a very welcome cup of tea 🙂 Thank you, Mac Nicols!

The best thing we’ve bought for our camping trips is an air fryer! Compact enough to fit in the under-bench storage, our baby Phillips managed 2 pies and a portion of oven chips quite easily. A quick and easy dinner when its too wet to braai.

Saturday was sunnier than expected and we spent some time down on Bazley Beach amongst the driftwood. Thankfully, no litter in sight!

As usual, everyone went all out to impress with their Christmas decor, candles and lights. The “best dressed table” prize was well-deserved. The Kerkhof’s once again treated us to fresh fish and chips with a selection of salads. Much appreciated I can assure you!

This time, we stayed an extra night, making our way home on Monday morning after a quick farewell to the remaining stragglers.

There are rumours of something special planned for the next Skipper trip sometime in March … can’t wait 🙂

About Mac Nicol’s Resort

Less than 100kms from Durban, Mac Nicol’s Resort is 90 metres from miles of unspoilt beach and is on the banks of the Ifafa Lagoon. All sites are large and are mainly shaded. On arrival, relax with a cup of tea while the friendly Mac Nicol’s staff erect your tent for you. This is definitely the best way to start your camping holiday!

The resort comprises several named areas: Lagoon; Fish Eagle; Froggy Pond; Bazley Park (The original park); Mango Valley; Stream; Upper; and River View, as well as the Private Ablutions sites.
There is a well-stocked shop and bottle store, with a takeaway open during long weekends and season. Try the famous chip roll, or grab an ice-cream on a hot day!

A very full entertainment programme is offered during season, but even out of season there is a lot to do: trampolines, a jungle gym, huge hall, tv room, the Bazley Trails, canoeing on the lagoon and much more. The tradition of morning tea and scones at the pool area is the perfect opportunity to make new friends.

The Mac Nicol family have been in the caravan park business since 1971, and being caravaners themselves they know exactly what is needed to make your holiday break the best ever.
